Blue Demons Pick Up Conference USA Honors

HOUSTON - DePaul senior volleyball player Stephanie Bishop was named to the Conference USA first team while teammates Christa Dirr, Kara Jakusz and Lara Marks earned second team honors. The Blue Demons open tournament action on Thursday night against East Carolina.
Bishop earned first team honors for the third straight season after setting new C-USA records in career digs and kills this year. Twice this season she was named the league's player of the week and ranks in the top eight in C-USA in digs, digs per game, kills and kills per game.
Dirr garnered second team honors for the second straight season after tallying 17 matches this season with double-figures in kills. She led the league with a .376 hitting percentage in conference games only while moving into second place in DePaul history in career blocks.
Jakusz is the all-time career leader in assists in C-USA history and ranked 10th all-time in NCAA history. She also ranks third in C-USA history and seventh in NCAA history in assists per game. This season, she led the league in total assists and assists per game while recording 50 or more assists 17 times. Last season, she was named Setter of the Year and received first team C-USA honors.
Marks was named to the second team for the first time in her career. She led the league this season with 127 blocks and ranked third with 1.18 blocks per game. Marks also totaled a league-best 12 blocks in the DePaul victory over Southern Miss.
The Blue Demons open the C-USA Tournament against East Carolina tonight at 8 p.m. The winner of that match will play fourth-seeded and host Houston on Friday night.
