HOUSTON, TEXAS – DePaul seniors Stephanie Bishop, Kara Jakusz and Melissa Nordine all posted big numbers and led the fifth-seeded Blue Demons to a 3-1 (30-21, 22-30, 30-22, 30-21) win over top-seed Cincinnati in the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament on Saturday at Hofeinz Pavilion.
Bishop posted 16 kills and 11 digs, Jakusz dished out 47 assists and had 12 digs while Nordine added a match-high 19 digs.
"It was all about senior leadership. They were not going to be denied," said DePaul head coach Dawn Dockstader. "This team has been focused and so poised throughout the tournament. What I love about this team is that they have never backed down. It was an incredible win for us, but we still have another game."
The Blue Demons will face Louisville in tomorrow’s championship match which begins at 2 p.m. It is the first time DePaul has ever advanced to the C-USA title match. The last time the Blue Demons reached a conference tournament final was the 1993 Great Midwest Tournament, which DePaul won and advanced to the program’s only NCAA Tournament appearance.
