ROSEMONT, Ill. - Lance Williams scored 23 points while Sam Hoskin and Quemont Greer each added 16 Sunday to lead DePaul to a 95-69 win over Long Island.
DePaul (4-4) played without No. 2 scorer Andre Brown, who was suspended two games by the club for academic reasons. The win snapped the Blue Demons’ two-game losing streak at the Allstate Arena.
Long Island (0-7) got off to a very slow start, missing its first five shots and scoring only three points in the game's first eight minutes.
But DePaul could only gain a 13-3 lead in that span, and Long Island stayed close. LaForest Knox's layup eventually got the Blackbirds within 20-16 with about eight minutes left in the half.
Joe Tulley later came off the bench and hit a 3-pointer, Greer followed with another 3, and Tulley scored a nice layup to highlight a 16-4 run that put DePaul up 16 late in the half.
DePaul continued to use its full-court press effectively, and Rashon Burno's transition layup near the halftime buzzer gave DePaul its biggest lead to that point, 44-27.
DePaul outrebounded Long Island 31-16 in the first half, and held the Blackbirds to 11-for-37 (30 percent) shooting.
The Blue Demons continued strong in the second half while the Blackbirds again began cold. Hoskin had a layup and Greer made a 3-pointer as DePaul opened up the second half with a 17-0 run for a 55-27 lead.
Drake Diener's 3-pointer with about 13 minutes left gave the Blue Demons their largest lead at 67-37.
JaJa Bey scored 17 points and Antawn Dobie had 14 to lead Long Island.
