CHICAGO - Seeking their first victory of the season, the DePaul men's soccer team came up short in a 3-2 overtime loss to Detroit. The Blue Demons came back twice to tie the score, but Ablaye Camara's golden goal at 99:34 put the Titans ahead in the extra period.
After an early Detroit goal by Eris Tafaj in the 14th minute, DePaul's Ed Kiefer evened the score at 44:50. Kiefer found the ball on the right side of the goal and knocked it off a Detroit defender to score his first goal of the season. The score remained even at the halftime intermission.
Eighteen minutes into the second half, the Titans struck again as Brandon Felker knocked his shot it from 18 yards off an assist by Camara. DePaul didn't waste much time as they knotted up the score again on a Chris Greer goal at 71:43. Kiefer and Claudio Ferre set up the Greer score with a pair of beautiful passes.
As time winded down in the second half, both teams had opportunities to score. DePaul goalkeeper Jash Chavero finished the game with eight saves, including six in the second half.
DePaul will travel to Macomb, Ill., for the Leatherneck Kelme Classic next weekend. The Blue Demons play host Western Illinois on Friday and Centenary on Saturday.
