CHICAGO – The Blue Demons hope to carry their momentum to the East Coast this weekend for two Conference USA matches against Charlotte (10-9, 1-1) and East Carolina (4-13, 0-3). Coach Dockstader and the team are geared up after a five-game win over UIC on Tuesday that included amazing performances from Lara Marks who chalked up 22 kills and a hitting percentage of .450 and Kaite Engel who also gave 22 kills and hit .362.
“I’m anxious to see how we come out this weekend. We had a big win against UIC but didn’t play particularly well in certain spots,” says Coach Dockstader.
“I was actually more excited about how they came into practice on Wednesday. They came in pumped but not satisfied. I really like that attitude because it shows me that they’re ready to make a run in conference.”
“Our leaders need to continue to play at a high level and they need to demand the same from the team as a whole.”
East Coast Foes
Charlotte is coached by Lisa Marston in her third season with the 49ers. Martson has seen much success this year including the title to the Springhill Suites Charlotte Classic earlier this season with wins over Columbia, Colgate and Xavier. Courtney Burg is Charlotte’s standout outside hitter to look out for. She leads the 49ers in kills this season having accumulated 248. Lisa Newell and Abbey Szlanfucht are also big hitters for the team. Newell posted ten kills and six blocks earlier this week in their match against Davidson. Megan Mossness has been running the offense for the 49ers since their first conference match against UAB two weeks ago. She notched 59 assists in their match against Davidson.
East Carolina will mark DePaul’s fourth conference game of the season. It is Head Coach Colleen Munson’s third season with the Pirates. The Glen Ellen, Illinois native has continued to make great strides in developing her program at East Carolina. Robyn Drewes and Sarah Vick have split up the offensive duties for the Pirates. Drewes posted 10 kills in their game against South Florida last weekend and leads her team defensively totaling 42 blocks this season. Vick has accumulated 152 kills this season, nine of which were against UAB last weekend. Pam Ferris is also a regular contributor in the front row. Erica Wilson and Jessica Vick have split the setting responsibilities this season.
