CHICAGO - The Blue Demons fell to Southern Miss on Friday night despite an incredible fight by the team and senior Katie Engel. DePaul rallied the Golden Eagles back and forth in games four and five but couldn’t seem to edge Southern Miss.
Although DePaul couldn’t come up with the win, it was no reflection of a show-stopping performance by Katie Engel. Engel put away 34 kills and 28 digs. She earned a hitting percentage of .420. Thirty-four kills puts Engel at fourth in individual match high kills (5-games) in this season’s conference records.
"Katie played an outstanding game," said Dockstader. "She came out strong tonight and put the ball away consistently for us."
Janet Cotter and Lara Marks both added 16 kills for the Blue Demons. Amie West set a sound game with 66 assists and 18 digs.
The Blue Demons host UW-Green Bay this Tuesday, October 22 at 7 p.m.
