CHICAGO – DePaul hosts their last two home matches this weekend before the Conference USA tournament. On Friday November 1, the Blue Demons will face Houston (14-7, 4-2 C-USA). Saturday, November 2, will begin with “Senior Night” at the DePaul athletic center before the team takes on TCU (10-13, 2-5 C-USA).
Head Coach Dawn Dockstader and her team are eager to play a weekend at home.
“I’m excited for this weekend. I’m looking forward to our last two home matches before the conference tournament especially since we’ve had a great week of practice.”
The Blue Demons anticipate improvement this weekend as they have continued to grow this year behind senior Katie Engel. Engel has moved up to fifth in the DePaul record books for career high in kills and digs. She is currently tied for fourth in career high attack percentage. With the addition of next weekend, Engel will look to add to her accomplishments.
“I’m looking for Katie to have a great weekend,” says Dockstader.
The Competition
“I have a great deal of respect for Houston,” says Dockstader. “They are consistently one of the top teams in the conference and they’re extremely well-coached.”
Bill Walton heads the Cougars in his 17th season. Leading his pack is Jenny Tannenberger whose 25 kills help put away UAB on Saturday. She hit a .400 against the Blazers and added eight digs.
Also challenging the Blue Demons will be the Horned Frogs of TCU.
“TCU has a new coach, Prentice Lewis, who is doing a fantastic job,” says Dockstader. “She’s really turning the program around.”
The Frogs are led by Dominika Szabo, a 6-0 sophomore from Hungary. Szabo has accumulated 332 kills for her team in the outside hitter spot.
Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m.
