CHICAGO -- Wesley Green, a 6-9 power forward from Eustis High School in Eustis, Fla. has signed a letter-of-intent to play at DePaul it was announced today by Blue Demon head coach Dave Leitao.
"We are extremely happy to have Wesley as part of our family," Leitao said. "His size and skill will help immediately as we build a positive foundation here at DePaul. I was particularly impressed with Wesley and his mom's commitment to family and that is why we went after him extremely hard."
Green, whose father Kenny was a star at Wake Forest and the 12th pick in the 1985 NBA Draft, averaged 18.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game as a junior last season. He has been named a high honorable mention All-American by Street & Smith's, was listed as the seventh-best center in the nation by The Sporting News and the 11th-best center by Rivals.com. Athlon also lists Green among the top 200 seniors in the country.
CHICAGO -- Marcus Heard, a 6-6 forward from Southeast High School in Springfield, Ill. has signed a letter-of-intent to play at DePaul it was announced today by Blue Demon head coach Dave Leitao.
"Marcus represents the type of multipurpose player that I am used to being around," Leitao said. "His ability to shoot from the perimeter, rebound and defend inside speaks to the diversity we are looking for here at DePaul."
Heard has earned Honorable mention All-American honors by Street & Smith's, is listed among the nation's top 200 seniors by Athlon and ranked as the 12th-best player in Illinois by highschoolelite.com.
CHICAGO -- Sammy Mejia, a 6-6 guard from Storm King prep in Cornwall-On-The-Hudson, N.Y. has signed a letter-of-intent to play at DePaul it was announced today by Blue Demon head coach Dave Leitao.
"We are ecstatic to have a player of Sammy's stature decide to spend the next four years here at DePaul," Leitao said. "His size and intelligence make him a terrific point guard and his versatility will make him effective off the ball as well."
Mejia averaged 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists last season. He was named the sixth-best point guard by ESPN.com, the eighth-best shooting guard by Athlon and the 16th-best point guard by RivalsHoops.com. He was tabbed as the 42nd-best player in the nation by ESPN.com, the 62nd-best senior by Prep Stars and the 63rd-ranked player by Rivals Hoops.com. He also earned Honorable Mention All-American honors from Street & Smith's.
CHICAGO -- Tyler Smith, a 6-2, guard from Baltimore, Md. has signed a letter-of-intent to play at DePaul it was announced today by Blue Demon head coach Dave Leitao.
"Having recruited Baltimore for many years, I know Tyler will bring the type of toughness that players from that city have brought before him," Leitao said. "His ability to score and distribute will be a valued asset to our program."
As a senior at Baltimore's Douglass High School a year ago, Smith led his team to a 29-0 record, the Baltimore city championship and the Maryland state title. He was named the Player of the Year in both Baltimore and the state of Maryland after averaging 29 points per game. Smith will play at Philadelphia Lutheran prep school this season. He has been ranked as the 42nd-best player in the country by ESPN.com, the 48th-best player by Rivals.com, the 16th-best point guard by Athlon, the 28th-best player by Theinsiders.com and the 73rd-best senior by Prep Stars. He also earned Honorable Mention All-American honors from Street & Smith's.
