MILWAUKEE – DePaul ended their season Friday night after a loss at Marquette. Scrappy defense gave the Golden Eagles the edge to finish off the Blue Demons in four games (19-30, 30-24, 30-23, 30-18).
The Blue Demons dominated in game one with seven team blocks and 14 kills. Janet Goreham and Lara Marks each had three block assists while Katie Engel gave five kills. After Engel put one down to make the score 20-14, DePaul never looked back and finished off the Golden Eagles 30-19.
It was neck and neck for most of game two, neither Marquette nor DePaul led by more than two points. At 18-18, the Golden Eagles pulled away with ease to beat DePaul 30-24.
In game three, Marquette pulled away early and kept a healthy lead until the Blue Demons caught up coming within two points of the Golden Eagles at 21-23. DePaul couldn’t quite keep up, though, allowing Marquette to pull away again to win 30-23. DePaul was out-hit 17 to 11.
Game four was controlled by Marquette throughout, securing them a victory over the Blue Demons and a spot at the C-USA tournament.
Goreham and Marks each had seven blocks for the night. Engel registered 16 kills and Marks put away 15 and earned an attack percentage of .355.
The Blue Demons ended their season with a record of 5-25, 1-12 (C-USA).
