Debut Night
Tonight is the exhibition debut of DePaul head coach Dave Leitao and his staff (assistant coaches Josh Oppenheimer, Tyler Jones and Gene Cross along with Director of Basketball Operations Robert Sommers). Leitao was introduced as the Blue Demons head coach on April 17. Prior to coming to Chicago, Dave had spent the previous six seasons as the associate coach at Connecticut.
About The Opponent
The EA Sports Midwest All-Stars are 0-2. They opened play by losing at Wisconsin-Milwaukee 89-62 on Friday. Marvin Rodgers led the team with 18 points while Mike Brownlee added 16. On Sunday, the All-Stars dropped a 73-64 decision at Wisconsin-Green Bay. Deon Dobbs scored 13 points while Leon Jones added 10. The squad will play at Wisconsin tomorrow night.
Brown Named To League Team
DePaul's Andre Brown was named to the Conference USA All-Preseason team the league announced last week. The 6-9 junior from Chicago was joined on the squad by Marquette's Dwayne Wade, Louisville's Reece Gaines, Cincinnati's Jason Maxiell, TCU's Junior Blount and Saint Louis' Marque Perry.
Former Blue Demon On Squad
There is a former DePaul player on the roster for the EA Sports Midwest All-Stars. Doc Taylor was a guard for the Blue Demons from 1996-98 and was a member of the Conference USA All-Newcomer team in 1997.
Regular Season Opener
DePaul will open the 2002-03 regular season on Saturday, November 23 against Northern Illinois in DeKalb. The game, which begins at 5:30 p.m., is the dedication game for NIU's Convocation Center. Fox Sports Chicago will televise the contest.
Home Opener
The Blue Demons will make their first appearance at home on Saturday, November 30 when Central Michigan comes to the Allstate Arena for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
Hits & Bits
For the first time since the 1990-91 season, DePaul will play all of its regular season games at the Allstate Arena... Andre Brown returns after becoming the first DePaul player since 1988-89 (Stanley Brundy) to lead the team in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage and blocked shots in the same season... senior Joe Tulley enters the season ranked 11th in DePaul history for 3pt. field goals made and attempted.
