Blue Demons Win Exhibition Opener

CHICAGO – Sam Hoskin recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds and Delonte Holland added 19 points as DePaul beat the EA Sports Midwest All-Stars 79-70 on Tuesday at the DePaul Athletic Center.
The contest was the exhibition opener for DePaul.
The All-Stars led by as much as eight in the opening period at 20-12 with 11:33 to go but DePaul was able to claw back with an 18-6 run in which Hoskin (six points) and Holland (five points) combined for 11 of the Blue Demons’ 18 points.
DePaul led 40-39 at halftime.
The Blue Demons came out of the gate in the second half and sprinted to a seven-point lead (47-40). The All-Stars roared back to take a four-point advantage at 54-50 with 11:30 left.
The contest was tied at 61-61 with 8:00 remaining when Joe Tulley made a lay-up and the Blue Demons never trailed again and cruised home to the 79-70 victory.
“I really wanted to see how we would compete against somebody else,” DePaul head coach Dave Leitao said. “I think at times we showed some fire - at the start of the second half and late in the game - but it was in stages. I want us to get it for a whole game.”
The Blue Demons played without the services of three players in Andre Brown, Marlon London and Marlon Brooks who sat out due to injury.
DePaul concludes the exhibition season on Saturday when Lewis comes to the Athletic Center for a 7:30 p.m. contest. The Blue Demons’ regular season opener is on November 23 at Northern Illinois.
