CHICAGO – LeVar Seals scored 15 points and Sam Hoskin grabbed 11 rebounds as DePaul beat Lewis 65-61 on Saturday at the DePaul Athletic Center.
The Blue Demons had to rally from a five-point deficit (57-52) with 4:46 remaining and took the lead for good at 60-59 on a jumper by Quemont Greer with 2:42 left. Lewis had a chance to take the lead or tie with 18 seconds remaining but came up short. Seals then drained a pair of free throws to seal the victory.
“It’s was a terrific test for us. We didn’t pass it in terms of structure, but we did pass it in terms of grit,” DePaul head coach Dave Leitao said. “It was a microcosm of what we are going to face on November 23. Today we were better defensively in the first half; we need to put that together for an entire game. That is what we keep telling the players about.
DePaul finishes the exhibition season 2-0 and will open the regular season on November 23 at Northern Illinois.
