Jakusz and Williams Earn C-USA Scholar-Athlete Awards

CHICAGO - For the second consecutive season volleyball player Kara Jakusz was named Conference USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year while Lenae Williams earned the same honor for women's basketball. Williams follows Molly Watson, who was the 2000-01 C-USA women's basketball winner.
Jakusz, a setter, finished her career as the all-time assist leader in DePaul and C-USA history while leading the Blue Demons to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. The 2001 Verizon Academic All-District team member was the MVP of the 2001 C-USA Tournament in which the volleyball team won DePaul's first C-USA Championship. The Lemont, Ill., native was also was a two-time All-Midwest Region honoree.
Williams wrapped up her collegiate basketball career as an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press, Basketball Times and WomensCollegeHoops.com. She is the third Blue Demons to win the league's scholar-athlete honor as Molly Watson was the 2000-01 winner and Anne McDonald earned the honor in 1998-99. On the court, Williams is just one of two players in DePaul women's basketball history with at least 2,000 points and she currently plays for the Detroit Shock of the WNBA.
