Blue Demons Fall in C-USA Opener

GREENVILLE, N.C. - After a scoreless first half, the Blue Demons and Pirates erupted for three goals in a span of less than three minutes. However, DePaul ended up on the short end as they lost, 2-1, on Friday after at East Carolina. The defeat snapped a two-match win streak for the Blue Demons and dropped them to 2-3-1 on the season.
In the first half, neither team could find the net as the Blue Demons outshot ECU, 7-3. For the match, DePaul was able to get off 12 shots compared to 10 for the Pirates.
In the 53rd minute, East Carolina's David Broyles scored the first goal off a corner kick. Less than a minute later at 53:28, Brian Deutsch scored the eventual game-winner on a breakaway goal.
DePaul's Edwin Arreola finished the scoring flurry with his second goal of the season at 55:20. Arreola took a Mike Fenton corner kick for the lone Blue Demon goal.
Up next for the Blue Demons is a Sunday afternoon contest at Charlotte. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. EST.
