EVANSTON, Ill. – DePaul and Loyola-Chicago went down to the wire before the Ramblers prevailed with a 3-2 (28-30, 30-19, 26-30, 30-27, 15-11) win in the final match for both teams in the Northwestern Invitational on Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
“Our blocking was phenomenal,” DePaul head coach Dawn Dockstader said. “Lara Marks played really well and has taken her game to the next level while Janet Cotter had the breakout performance offensively that we knew she was capable of. Now she needs to keep her play at that level. Janet Goreham’s blocking all weekend was very good and she has really turned the corner in that aspect of her game.”
DePaul (3-10) got 23 kills from junior Lara Marks while sophomore Janet Goreham added 18 kills and 11 digs. Senior Katie Engel chipped in with 14 kills and 10 digs. Junior Janet Cotter had 10 kills and 16 digs while sophomore setter Amie West handed out 51 assists.
DePaul will be in action again on Wednesday when it travels to Bradley for a 7 p.m. match.
