PEORIA, Ill. – DePaul could not rally behind the strength of their setter on Wednesday night to surpass Bradley (30-23, 32-30, 30-19).
In game one, the Blue Demons were neck and neck with the Braves until the twenty-first point when Bradley pulled away to finish the game 30-23. Janet Goreham led DePaul’s efforts from the middle with six kills and six digs.
The Blue Demons exploded from the start of game two to eventually take a lead of 17-9. The Braves managed to make a run to even the score 29-29 and their final efforts outdid DePaul 32-30. Katie Engel, Lara Marks, and Goreham led the offense.
DePaul started off strong again in the third game but did not stay consistent enough to beat Bradley.
“We played some of our best volleyball tonight for one and a half games,” said Coach Dockstader. “We were up 29-25 in the second game and couldn’t finish it. We have to win those games. It’s inexcusable.”
The offense’s efforts were directed by setter Amie West who stayed in control throughout the match.
“West set a really nice game tonight. She really ran the floor.”
West set 35 assists and led defensively with 13 digs. Janet Cotter also added 13 digs for the defense.
Lara Marks registered 11 kills and Engel contributed 12 of her own for the Blue Demons.
The Blue Demons look to redeem themselves in their next match on Tuesday, October 1 at UW-Milwaukee.
