MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The DePaul men’s soccer team notched a critical 2-0 win on the road at Memphis on Saturday night. With the win, the Blue Demons have won four of their last five matches and moved into the hunt for a Conference USA tournament berth in November. Adam Hermsen scored one goal and assisted another to lead the Blue Demons.
Despite being outshot, 16-4, DePaul (5-7-0, 2-2-0 C-USA) made the most of their opportunities with a pair of goals. Following a scoreless first half, Hermsen scored the eventual game-winner at 58:18 after he stole the ball from a Memphis defender and sent it past Tiger keeper Sebastian Vecchio. The score was Hermsen’s first goal of the season.
Just over 20 minutes later, Edwin Arreola sealed the win for DePaul with his third goal of the year in the 77th minute. Hermsen was credited with his second assist of the season. The DePaul defense was solid as they held Memphis (4-6-1, 1-4-1 C-USA) to just one shot on goal forcing keeper Michael Timlin to make a single save.
DePaul steps out of Conference USA action on Wednesday night as they travel to UW-Green Bay. The Blue Demons return to Wish Field next weekend when they host Charlotte at Wish Field.
