Volleyball Puts Up Big Numbers, but Fails to Win

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Blue Demons fell to the Golden Eagles Friday night in four game (25-30, 30-22, 23-30, 22-30) on the road. DePaul falls to 10-12 and 2-3 C-USA while Southern Miss improves to 20-3 and 5-0 C-USA.
“I am happy with how my team came out tonight,” Head Coach Dawn Dockstader said. “We put up some great numbers; but those numbers have to transfer into a win and tonight they did not.”
As a team the Blue Demons knocked down a .300 hitting percentage. They were lead by senior Janet Cotter, who tied a previous season high, 21 kills. Cotter also netted a .425 hitting percentage. DePaul also saw explosive hitting from sophomore, Mandy Moorberg who tallied 19 kills and junior Amy Holmes who notched 14 kills.
DePaul was able to hold Southern Miss to 66 kills and a .292 hitting percentage.
Defensively, the Blue Demons saw four players reach double digit dig totals; Cotter 16, Holmes 15, Moorberg 12 and freshman libero Ellen Hayes 13.
The Blue Demons will be back in action tomorrow night in New Orleans when they face Tulane at 7:00 pm.
