FORT WORTH, Texas – The DePaul women’s volleyball team opened their final C-USA regular-season road trip with a 3-1 victory over TCU. The Blue Demons dropped a close first game, 30-27, before sweeping the final three, 30-26, 30-24 and 30-25. With the win, the Blue Demons improve to 11-15 overall and 3-5 in C-USA play while the Horned Frogs drop to 17-9 and 3-5.
Mandy Moorberg led the Blue Demons with a match-high 21 kills to go along with 18 digs. Janet Cotter totaled 16 kills while Janet Goreham had 15 and Lara Marks finished with 13 kills. Setter Amy West was busy feeding the foursome as she finished the four-game match with 57 assists.
The first game saw TCU post a .250 team hitting percentage, their highest of the evening, while building an 18-11 lead. DePaul came back and took a brief 19-18 lead before the home team regained the advantage and held on to take game one.
The second game was all DePaul as the Blue Demons jumped out to a 12-5 advantage. The Frogs tied the game at 20-20, but DePaul scored 10 of the next six points to win, 30-26. In the second game the Blue Demons combined to hit a match-best .366.
Games three and four were very similar as DePaul built an early lead in each game only to see TCU creep back into the match before the Blue Demons put them away. DePaul held an 18-7 lead in the third game only to see TCU come back and trim the lead to 28-24. A kill by Goreham and a block by Cotter, Marks and Amy Holmes put the Blue Demons over the top, 30-24. The final game had the club up 28-25 when a pair of kills by Holmes sealed the win.
The DePaul victory marked the 100th coaching win for head coach Dawn Dockstader. The Blue Demons move south to play Houston on Saturday. Match time with the Cougars is set for 7:30 p.m.
