Blue Demons Fall to Saint Louis

CHICAGO – The men’s soccer team played hard but came up short, 1-0, on Wednesday after to the visiting Saint Louis Billikens. DePaul’s three-match winning streak came to end as No. 5 Saint Louis won their seventh straight road match.
After a scoreless first half, Saint Louis (8-1-2, 3-1-1 C-USA) scored the match’s lone goal in the 62nd minute. Casey Spiess found Will John on the right side of the net and John one-timed it past DePaul keeper Michael Timlin for the game-winner.
DePaul (4-7-0, 1-2-0 C-USA) created a couple of opportunities late in the match, but they were snuffed out by the Billiken defense. In the match, Saint Louis outshot the Blue Demons, 12-5, while Timlin finished the match with three saves.
The Blue Demons go on the road this weekend for a Conference USA match at Memphis. Kickoff on Saturday is set for 7 p.m. against the Tigers. DePaul follows that match with a game at UW-Green Bay on Oct. 15 before returning to Wish Field for an Oct. 18 match against Charlotte.
