Men's Soccer Plays at USF

CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s soccer team plays their final regular-season match with a Conference USA Tournament berth on the line. A win by the Blue Demons over USF on Sunday afternoon could place them in the league tourney next week in Memphis. The Blue Demon, winners of seven of their last 11 matches, enter the game at 8-10-0 overall and 4-4-0 in C-USA play. The Bulls are just behind DePaul in the league standings with a record of 6-6-3 and are 3-3-2 in league action. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. EST.
Noting the Blue Demons
After starting the season 1-6, the Blue Demons have won seven of their last 11 games… Edwin Arreola and Luke Rojo lead the club with 11 points each… Arreola has scored five goals with an assist while Rojo has tallied four goals and three assists… Rojo is currently tied for 13th on DePaul’s all-time scoring list with 34 career points (12G, 10A)… the Blue Demons have taken 175 shots compared to 182 for the opposition, and have been outscored, 22-15… over the last 10 matches, the Blue Demons have tallied 11 goals while allowing eight… they also have 99 corner kicks this season compared to just 52 combined for the opponents… head coach Craig Blazer is in his third season with the Blue Demons.
In the Hunt
DePaul currently stands in seventh place in the Conference USA standings with a 4-4-0 record (12 points). The top six teams qualify for the league’s tournament at Memphis, November 13-16. The Blue Demons can control their own destiny as they finish the season with the USF Bulls on Sunday. For each win, a team gets three points in the standings while a tie is worth one point. DePaul needs to win on Sunday and have either Charlotte or Marquette lose on Saturday.

Make a Wish
Over the last two seasons, the Blue Demons have made historic Wish Field a tough venue for visitors. The club has won 11 of its last 15 home matches, including a 5-3 mark in 2003. A year ago, the club posted a 6-1 record at home which tied the single-season school record for home wins in a season.
Conference USA Players of the Week
Three times this season a DePaul player took Conference USA’s weekly honor. Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Timlin was named the defensive Player of the Week on Monday and joined Jeff Klitzke and Luke Rojo, who earned the honor earlier in the season. Klitzke and Rojo both picked up their honors on Oct. 6 as Klitzke was the defensive player and Rojo earned the offensive recognition.
