CHICAGO – On Friday and Saturday, the women’s tennis team will face three strong programs and will attempt to bounce back from a rough last weekend.
The Blue Demon’s face Michigan State at 5 p.m. on Friday and then play twice on Saturday against Bradley at noon and Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 4 p.m.
Last weekend, DePaul fell to Illinois State for the first time in three years and then lost to Furman at home. Both meets were barely let go by the Blue Demons as the Redbirds and Lady Paladin beat them 4-3. After their losses, DePaul regrouped to beat Northern Illinois on Sunday, 5-2.
DePaul is currently ranked 11th regionally in the Midwest and is led by senior Szilvia Kelemen and sophomore Marina Parashkevova.
The Competition
Bradley has gone 0-2 this spring season. They were shut out 0-7 by both Butler and Valparaiso. The Braves are coached by Sheryl Sattler in her second season.
Wisconsin-Milwaukee is currently 1-4 this spring season. Last year, DePaul shut out the Panthers 7-0 at home. Freshman Alyssa Halcomb was named Player of the Week twice in the fall season by the Horizon League. Her prowess led UW-Milwaukee to their only win this season against Missouri-Kansas City. The Panthers are coached by Erin Jex in her third year.
Michigan State is ranked nationally at No. 64. Their young roster includes just one senior and two juniors, but sophomore Dora Vastag is ranked nationally in singles at No. 117. Head Coach Tim Bauer is in his fourth year and has done an incredible job rebuilding the Michigan State tennis program. The Spartans finished last season with a record of 11-12 and are currently 3-3 in the spring season.
