Chicago Public League Star Lorenzo Thompson Signs With DePaul

CHICAGO -- Lorenzo Thompson, a 6-8 forward from Crane High School in Chicago, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball at DePaul it was announced today by Blue Demon head coach Dave Leitao.
"Having Lorenzo commit to play at DePaul speaks to his trust in our future and DePaul's impact on players in the Chicagoland area," Leitao said. "He is a multidimensional player who we will be able to use both inside and outside next season."
Thompson averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds this season while helping the Condors to a 26-1 record. He was named All-State by the Chicago Tribune and All-Area by the Chicago Sun-Times as well as being named first team All-Chicago Public League. A High Honorable Mention All-American selection by Street & Smith's (he was also on the publication's All-Chicago team), Thompson was named the ninth-best small forward in the nation by Athlon, the 46th-best player in the nation by ESPN.com and the fourth-ranked senior in the state of Illinois by highschoolelite.com.
Thompson joins DePaul's recruiting class that already includes Wesley Green (6-9 forward/center, Eustis, Fla.), Marcus Heard (6-6 forward, Springfield, Ill.), Sammy Mejia (6-6 guard, Bronx, N.Y.), and Tyler Smith (6-2 guard, Baltimore, Md.).
The Blue Demons finished the 2002-03 season, Leitao's first, with a 16-13 record and earned a berth in the NIT - the program's first postseason appearance in three years.
