MILWAUKEE, Wis. – In their first Conference USA match of the season, the DePaul men’s soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at Marquette on Wednesday night. The defeat was the second straight for the Blue Demons and the fourth win consecutive win by the Golden Eagles over DePaul.
The Golden Eagles scored two goals in each half. Marquette (2-3, 1-0 C-USA) opened the match with a pair of scores in the first 12 minutes to take a commanding 2-0 advantage. Blair Kohlmeyer and Chris Lee each found the net for the home team.
The lead remained at 2-0 until the Golden Eagles struck again with less than 15 minutes left in regulation. After a Matt Boulin goal in the 78th minute, Kohlmeyer tallied his second goal of the match in the 86th minute.
DePaul (1-3, 0-1 C-USA) returns to where they started the season at Northwestern. The Blue Demons are one of four teams competing this weekend at the Lakefront Classic in Evanston. DePaul takes on Lafayette on Friday at 1:30 p.m. followed by Northwestern and Eastern Illinois. The Blue Demons play host Northwestern on Sunday at 4 p.m. following the match between Lafayette and Eastern Illinois.
On Sept. 23, the Blue Demons take on neighborhood foe Loyola at 7 p.m. at the Loyola Soccer Park. The next home match is set for Sept. 27 when the club hosts the neighbors to the south, Illinois-Chicago.
