“Tonight was a really nice team effort. We came out ready to play,” Head Coach Dawn Dockstader said. “We were intense and only focused on one-ball at a time, which is something we have worked on and talked about the last couple of weeks.”
Senior Lara Marks physically dominated in the middle. Marks tallied ten kills on 16 attempts and did not have one error. Marks left the arena with a season high .625 hitting percentage. “I have not seen a middle perform as well as Lara did, in long time. I am impressed with her intense level of play this evening,” Dockstader added.
The Blue Demon domination started in game one. DePaul hammered down 14 kills, 16 digs and three blocks. The Blue Demons won the first game 30-23.
DePaul exploded in game two, taking the lead at one point 10-2. Marks had four kills and junior Janet Goreham had three. As a team the Blue Demons nailed down .536 hitting percentage, while holding UIC at a -.167.
DePaul held UIC to only 14 points in game two; the fewest game points the Blue Demons have held an opponent all season.
The momentum carried over into game three, with DePaul slamming down 22 kills and a season high .538 hitting percentage.
The Blue Demons physically overpowered the Flames and took them out of match. DePaul held the Flames to .088 hitting percentage for the match while hitting a season high .434.
“When we can hit a .434 we are executing well and taking care of the ball,” Dockstader said. “I cannot ask for much more than to have my team hit that well; they were all amazing tonight.”
Junior Amie West distributed the ball well again for the Blue Demons. She registered 36 assists on the evening. “Amie is doing a fantastic job of dispensing the ball to all of our hitters evenly. She kept the offense coming at the Flames from all direction,” Dockstader added.
Senior Janet Cotter had another excellent match for the Blue Demons. Cotter recorded 15 kills and 14 digs this evening. “Janet has stepped up her level of play in the last couple of game. She is a powerful outside hitter and commands the respect of her opponents,” Dockstader said.
The Blue Demons will enjoy this win, but will be back in action this weekend as they host the Blue Demon Invitational. DePaul will face Miami of Ohio on Friday, September 19th at
