DePaul Hosts UIC on Saturday

CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s soccer team places their second neighborhood foe of the week as they host the Illinois-Chicago Flames on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Wish Field. The Blue Demons lost, 2-0, to Loyola-Chicago on Tuesday night in Rogers Park.
A year ago at Illinois-Chicago, the two clubs played to a 2-2 draw. The Flames jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half. Anthony Minniti scored DePaul’s first goal just before halftime and Jonathan Foley tied the match in the 79th minute. Neither team could score in the two overtime periods as they combined for 13 shots.
Noting the Blue Demons
The Blue Demons enter Saturday’s match having dropped five consecutive matches… Luke Rojo leads the club with two goals this season… the Blue Demons have outshot their opponents, 73-65, but have been outscored, 14-4… they also have a Conference USA-high 47 corner kicks compared to just 19 combined for the opponents… the Blue Demons dropped their only Conference USA match of the season, 4-0, at Marquette… the club has played just one home match this season while playing four at Northwestern’s Thomas Sports Complex… the next four matches will be played at Wish Field… head coach Craig Blazer is in his third season with the Blue Demons.

Scouting the Flames
The Illinois-Chicago Flames enter Saturday’s match at 5-3-0… after starting the season with five consecutive wins, they have lost their last three… common opponents with DePaul include Marquette and Loyola-Chicago… the Flames defeated Marquette and lost to Loyola while the Blue Demons lost to both teams… Dennis King leads the team with 12 points on six goals… UIC has scored 17 goals this season while allowing 15… head coach Sasha Begovic is in his 12th season at Illinois-Chicago.
What Lies Ahead
The UIC match is the first of four straight at Wish Field. Saturday’s match is followed by Northern Illinois on Oct. 1 with Conference USA members Louisville and Saint Louis coming to Chicago on Oct. 4 and Oct. 8, respectively.
