Blue Demons Top Illinois-Chicago

CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s soccer team snapped a five-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 win over visiting Illinois-Chicago at Wish Field. Luke Rojo scored the game-winner with just under five minutes remaining in regulation.
The two teams played to a scoreless first half with DePaul just missing on a pair of scoring opportunities. Edwin Arreola hit the crossbar while Jonathan Foley’s knocked a shot off the post.
DePaul (2-6-0) kept the pressure on in the second stanza, outshooting UIC 9-3 and broke through with Rojo’s third goal of the season. Adam Hermsen fed the junior and he beat UIC’s Ross Cain for his third goal of the year at 85:11.
In the match, the Blue Demons outshot Illinois-Chicago (5-4-0), 13-8, while taking six corner kicks to three for the visitors. The win for the Blue Demons was the seventh win in the last nine matches at Wish Field.
DePaul hosts Northern Illinois on Wednesday at Wish Field. Kickoff with the Huskies is set for 3 p.m. Next weekend, the Blue Demons return to Conference USA play with a 1 p.m. game against Louisville at Wish Field.
