Indoor Track and Field Travels to Carthage College Invitational

CHICAGO – The DePaul indoor track and field teams will head north to Kenosha, Wis., on Saturday for the Carthage College Invitational. The meet begins at 11 a.m. and will run throughout the day. DePaul is one of six NCAA Division I teams at the meet.
The eight-team event will feature six NCAA Division I programs. Joining DePaul in Kenosha is Chicago State, Loyola, Marquette, Valparaiso and UW-Milwaukee. Host Carthage College and UW-Parkside will also compete in the meet at the Tarble Atheltic and Recreation Center.
The Blue Demons are coming off a strong showing at the Maroon Invitational last weekend at the University of Chicago. The men’s team took first place in seven of their 15 events while the women’s squad won six of 14 events last Saturday.
Individually, the women’s team claimed the top three spots in the shot put. Erika Lockhart won the event and was followed by Jeana LeRoy and Tammy Burris in second and third, respectively. Other first-place finishers for the Blue Demons were Carrie Moffett in the mile, Dee Moore in the 55-meter dash, Leah Rygh in the 400-meter dash and Erin Moffett in the 3000-meter run. The 4x400-meter relay team of Diana Runnels, Moore, Mary Hodges and Courtney Grand Pre won in a time of 4:09.63.
For the men’s team, Rashard Deleston won the long jump while Jarrod Jahnke led the way in the weight throw. Other DePaul winners included Rick Britton in the 3000-meter run, Larry Inanga in the 55-meter dash, Anthony Becknek in the 5000-meter run and Webster Jones in the high jump. The first-place 4x400-meter relay team of Inanga, Doug Bohr, Mike Scafide and Siddiqu Muhammad won in 3:20.40.
Next weekend, the teams will head to Indianapolis, Ind., for the annual Stan Lyons Invitational. The meet takes place on Saturday, Jan. 24 and will run all day.
