Blue Demons Finish Second at Carthage College Invitational

KENOSHA, Wis. – The DePaul women’s track and field team placed second out of eight teams on Saturday at the third annual Carthage College Division I Invitational. The Blue Demons finished with 111 points just behind Marquette who won the team title with 116.5 points.
DePaul throwers continued their strong start as they won the shot put and weight throw competitions. The Blue Demons swept the top three spots of the shot put with Erika Lockhart winning with a distance of 12.47 meters (40’11”). She was followed by Jeana LeRoy at 12.28 meters (40’3.5”) and Tammy Burris at 12.27 meters (40’3.25”).
In addition to placing third in the shot put, Burris won the weight throw with a distance of 14.87 meters (48’9.5”). Lockhart also competed in the long jump and placed second at 5.31 meters (17’5.25”).
DePaul won three other events on Saturday. Diana Runnels took first in the 400 with a time of 58.79 while Leah Rygh was first in the 800 at 2:17.56. Carrie Moffett placed first in the 3000-meter run with a winning time of 10:16.82.
Dee Moore took second place in two events while Erin Moffett was third in the mile. Moore recorded times of 7.19 in 55-meter dash and 26.26 in the 200-meter dash. Moffett finished the mile in a time of 5:08.90.
The team continues the indoor season next Saturday at the Stan Lyons Invitational in Indianapolis, Ind.
