CHICAGO – An early goal by Wisconsin’s Aaron Witchger proved to be the game-winner as the Badgers held off the Blue Demons, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. DePaul managed just three shots during the match while Wisconsin was able to get off 12 attempts.
Wisconsin (6-7-0) put the pressure on early and broke through when Nick Van Sicklen found Witchger on the left side of the box. Witchger didn’t waste and time and fired a liner to the back of the net from 15 yards at 8:57 past a diving Brian Allen.
The Badgers went on to outshoot DePaul, 10-2, in the first half and 12-3 in the match.
DePaul (2-11-3) put together a pair of opportunities in the second half, but came up empty each time. The loss for the Blue Demons was the third straight heading into the final home game of the regular season.
Up next for DePaul is Marquette on Wednesday afternoon. Kickoff at Wish Field is set for 2 p.m. A brief ceremony will be held prior to the match, recognizing the seniors in the final home match at Wish Field.
