Blue Demons Down TCU in Five

CHICAGO- In Conference USA volleyball action, the DePaul volleyball team downed TCU in a thrilling five-game match Friday evening at the DePaul Athletic Center. The Blue Demons improve to 9-13 overall and 2-4 in C-USA, while the TCU drops to 14-7 and 5-2 in league play.
“Tonight’s win was a complete team effort,” head coach Dawn Dockstader said. “We played with confidence late in match and that allowed us to pull out a great win tonight!”
Entering the fourth game the Blue Demons were in a must win situation, and junior Mandy Moorberg came through in a big way, connecting on six kills in10 attempts to carry DePaul to a 30-25 victory and into a fifth game. As a team, DePaul hit a smoldering .378 and tallied 15 kills.
The fifth game was a nail bitter as the lead exchanged hands five times. Down 8-9, Janet Goreham and Morgan Ingersoll connected on three consecutive kills to put the Blue Demons up by two. The Horned Frogs would come back to tie the match at 12 apiece, but three consecutive errors cost them the game and match. Goreham and Ingersoll each tallied four kills in the final game and helped DePaul to a blistering .348 attack percentage.
Earlier in the match the Blue Demons dropped the first game 30-21 and the third game 30-13. TCU libero, Talaya Whitfield put on a defensive show tallying 16 digs in the first and third games and finished the match with 33 digs.
DePaul won the second game 30-24. Moorberg led the charge tallying six kills and a .364 attack percentage.
“I am so happy with senior setter Amy Holmes’ performance tonight, she led the team and they followed,” Dockstader said. “She made some great decisions with the ball and found our hitters at crucial times.”
Holmes finished the match with 41 assists and six kills.
TCU’s Ellen Rehme led all players with 21 kills and a .303 attack percentage.
