Volleyball Blocks Houston in Four

CHICAGO- DePaul senior middle blocker Janet Goreham notched 16 kills, 13 total blocks and 11 digs to lead the DePaul volleyball team to a 3-1 (30-28, 30-22, 27-30, 30-25) victory over Conference USA opponent Houston, Saturday evening at the DePaul Athletic Center. The Blue Demons improve to 10-13 on the season and 3-4 in C-USA, while the Cougars fall to 4-16 and 3-5 in league play.
“I am thrilled with how these women played tonight.” DePaul head coach Dawn Dockstader said. “They came out after an emotional win last night and were able to play at higher level of intensity than the night before.”
“Janet Goreham and Ellen Hayes had the games of their careers; I have not seen a better performance by a middle blocker or a libero in long time. I could not be more pleased with their performances,” Dockstader added.
Gorham’s career high game was one block assists away from DePaul’s first triple double in four years. Goreham finished the match with a .361 attack percentage.
Hayes notched her second 30 plus dig performance of the season, finishing the evening with a new career high 32 digs.
The Blue Demons dominated the net in the first game, nailing down .306 attack percentage. Outside hitters, Morgan Ingersoll and Mandy Moorberg paced the DePaul offense with six kills apiece. Defensively the Blue Demons held the Cougars to a .094 attack percentage, tallying 21 digs and four blocks.
DePaul took advantage of 17 Cougar errors to take the second game 30-22. DePaul freshman Aly Zavitz found the holes in the Cougar service receive, serving up three service aces.

The Blue Demons blocked the Cougar offense in game four, recording six of their 18 blocks. Setter Amy Holmes and Goreham combined for 5.5 blocks and six kills. Ingersoll added 5 kills and a .556 attack percentage to lead all players and the Blue Demons to a 30-25 victory.
Ingersoll paced the Blue Demons with 17 kills for a .364 attack percentage.
