Blue Demons Lose in Overtime

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The DePaul men’s soccer team dropped a 2-1 overtime decision at East Carolina on Sunday morning. John Partyka tied the match at 1-1 with a penalty kick in the second half, but the Pirates scored the game-winner in the 96th minute.
East Carolina scored the first goal of the match at 37:39 when Michael Logan gathered a rebound off DePaul goalkeeper Michael Timlin and found the back of the net.
The Blue Demons tied the match at 67:54 when a Pirate defender was called for a foul in the penalty box. Partyka lined up and scored past East Carolina keeper Brian Pope for his second goal of the season.
Neither team could score over the final 22 minutes of regulation to force DePaul’s sixth overtime match of the season.
East Carolina (5-5-0, 1-1-0 C-USA) broke the tie late in the first overtime period when Pat Cutler sent a pass in front of the goal from the right side where Calvin Simon headed in the game-winner.
The Blue Demons were outshot, 11-6, in the match while the Pirates totaled 10 corner kicks to two for DePaul. Michael Timlin played the first half tallying three saves before Brian Allen took over in goal and finished with one save in 51 minutes.
DePaul (2-8-2, 0-3-0 C-USA) returns to Wish Field on Wednesday for a match against Cincinnati. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. in Lincoln Park.
