DePaul Drops C-USA Match

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Patrick Vyncke’s sixth goal of the season gave the Blue Demons a 1-0 first half lead, but Charlotte stormed back with four second-half goals in a 4-1 decision on Saturday night.
Julian Chille set up the DePaul goal on a corner kick. Chille found Vyncke, who headed in the game’s first goal, in the 20th minute. For Chille, it was his team-high fifth assist of the season.
The Blue Demons held the advantage throughout the first half. However, Charlotte (10-5-1, 5-4-0 C-USA) quickly tied the match just after halftime. The 49ers scored four second-half goals while outshooting the Blue Demons, 18-3.
Steven Traeger tied the match at 47:39 when he converted a header off a corner kick from Floyd Franks.
Charlotte took the lead in the 73rd minute when Adam Ruud scored the first of his two goals on another header off a corner kick. Ruud struck again at 81:44 before Mira Mupier put the match away at 83:07.
Goalkeeper Brian Allen finished the match with a career-high 10 saves while facing 25 shots. In the match, the Blue Demons were outshot, 25-8.
DePaul (3-13-3, 1-6-1 C-USA) wraps up the 2004 season with a road match at UAB. The Blue Demons and Blazers face-off on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
