CHICAGO - For the seventh time this season, the DePaul men's soccer team went to overtime. On Wednesday at Wish Field, it was the Blue Demons playing Cincinnati to a 1-1 draw over 110 minutes of soccer.
The Bearcats got on the board first when Jeremiah Gallegos found the net at 22:14. Cincinnati (2-7-1, 1-2-1 C-USA) nearly scored five minutes into the match, but DePaul goalkeeper Brian Allen made a save off a point-blank header by the visitors.
DePaul (2-8-3, 0-3-1 C-USA) generated a pair of scoring opportunities with just under 20 minutes left in the first half, but Cincinnati’s Mike Vessells was there both times. A Julian Chill pass found Kevin Riemer on the sprint and he beat a Bearcat defender only to see Vessells stop his shot from the top of the box. Two minutes later, John Kornfeld dribbled through the Cincinnati defense, but came up empty against the Bearcat keeper.
The visitors held the lead late into the second half until Patrick Vyncke came through to tie the match. His fifth goal of the season came off a throw-in that saw Kurt Albrecht find Vyncke and he tied the match at 82:09.
Neither team was able to score and settled with the 1-1 tie. Cincinnati outshot DePaul, 12-9 with both teams taking five corner kicks. Both goalkeepers finished the afternoon with five saves each.
The Blue Demons go on the road Saturday for an evening match at Louisville. Kickoff at Cardinal Park is set for 7 p.m. EST.
