Men's Basketball Inks Three

CHICAGO -- DePaul signed three men’s basketball players to National Letters-of-Intent it was announced by DePaul Head Coach Dave Leitao.

Michigan Standout Wilson Chandler Signs National Letter-of-Intent to Play at DePaul

CHICAGO – Benton Harbor (Mich.) High School standout Wilson Chandler has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball at DePaul it was announced today by Blue Demon head coach Dave Leitao.

 “We are thrilled that Wilson has decided to join our program,” Leitao said. “He is a multi-positional player who can score and play above the rim. We are happy to have a caliber player who is in the running for Michigan’s Mr. Basketball.”

Chandler, a 6-7, 185-pound forward, averaged 22.4 points and 12 rebounds as a junior while helping Benton Harbor to a 19-4 record. He earned All-State mention in Michigan after both his sophomore and junior seasons. Chandler was named a high honorable mention All-American by Street & Smith’s, was ranked as the 18th-best small forward in the country by Athlon and among the top 50 players by Hoop Scoop Online. Chandler has also been tabbed as the 30th-best small forward by Rivals.com and the nation’s 50th-best player by Hoopmasters.com.

Chandler joins DePaul’s recruiting class that includes Jabari Currie (6-4, guard, Detroit, Mich.) and Rashad Woods (6-5, guard, Westbury, Texas).

The Blue Demons finished the 2003-04 season, with a 22-10 record, won a share of the Conference USA title and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Next season DePaul will join the BIG EAST Conference.

Detroit Standout Jabari Currie Signs National Letter-of-Intent to Play at DePaul

CHICAGO – Detroit native and Pershing High School standout Jabari Currie has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball at DePaul it was announced today by Blue Demon head coach Dave Leitao.

 “We are extremely happy that Jabari has decided to join the DePaul Basketball family,” Leitao said. “He will give us a quiet toughness that I think every successful program needs. Jabari can play on the ball because of his size and tremendous court vision but he also owns the ability to swing to other positions on the floor.”

Currie, a 6-4, 195-pound guard, has been named a high honorable mention All-American by Street & Smith’s and was tabbed the 34th-best shooting guard in the country by Rivals.com. Currie was also named the 85th-best player in the country by Hoopmasters.com, one of the top 105 players in the nation by Athlon and was ranked among the top 50 players by Hoop Scoop Online. He earned All-Detroit honors after averaging 19 points, four rebounds and four assists during his junior season at Pershing.

Currie joins DePaul’s recruiting class that also includes Wilson Chandler (6-7, forward, Benton Harbor, Mich.) and Rashad Woods (6-5, guard, Westbury, Texas).

Texas Standout Rashad Woods Signs National Letter-of-Intent to Play at DePaul

CHICAGO – Texas standout Rashad Woods has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to play basketball at DePaul it was announced today by Blue Demon head coach Dave Leitao.

 “We are very happy to have Rashad joining the Blue Demon family, Leitao said. “He is a quietly confident player who will bring the ability to score from the perimeter on a regular basis. Rashad will bring good size and athleticism to our backcourt.”

Woods, a 6-5, 215-pound guard, was named a high honorable mention All-American by Street & Smith’s after averaging 26 points and seven rebounds as a junior at Westbury High School. Woods was selected the ninth-best player and small forward in the state of Texas by Rivals.com who also ranked him as the 40th-best player in the nation. Hoopmasters.com selected Woods as the 93rd-best player in the country and he was ranked among the nation’s top 50 by Hoop Scoop Online.

Woods joins DePaul’s recruiting class that includes Wilson Chandler (6-7, forward, Benton Harbor, Mich.) and Jabari Currie (6-4, guard, Detroit, Mich.).
