Volleyball Falls In Opening Round of Conference USA Tournament

LOUISVILLE, KY– The DePaul volleyball season ended on with a 3-0(30-23, 30-28, 30-26) loss to Memphis in the first round of the ChevronTexaco Conference USA Tournament on Friday afternoon at Cardinal Arena.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in game-one.  Mandy Moorberg would pull the Blue Demons within two points at 17-19, on a kill feed to her by senior setter Amy Holmes.  Two points was as close as the Blue Demons could get, as they lost the first game 30-23.

DePaul held the lead in game-two until Memphis took over on a Nancy Nellans kills at 12-11.  The Tigers never looked back, downing the Blue Demons 30-28 in the second game.  Nellans finished the match with a team-high 14 kills.

Down 19-26 in the third game the Blue Demons went on a 5-1 run, causing Memphis to call its final time-out.  Following the timeout, sophomore outside hitter, Morgan Ingersoll served up and ace to the pull DePaul within in three, 24-27.  With the match on the line, Tiara Gilkey’s putaway ended the Blue Demons season.  DePaul lost the final game 30-26.

Holmes led the Blue Demons with a .444 hitting percentage, while Ingersoll had a team-high 11 kills.

The loss ended DePaul’s season with a 12-19 record while Memphis moves to 26-9.
