Blue Demon Win A Senior Moment

ROSEMONT, Ill. – DePaul’s Quemont Greer poured in a career-high 29 points and the Blue Demons’ three seniors all scored in double figures as DePaul posted a 70-59 win over Dayton on Wednesday at the Allstate Arena.

DePaul improved to 3-1 on the young season while Dayton fell to 1-2.

“I am proud of the guys for the way they came back after Saturday’s loss,” DePaul head coach Dave Leitao said. “Quemont played a very good floor game and our guys fed off his energy. Our seniors really stepped up and made plays tonight.”

Greer, who’s previous best was a 25-point effort in a victory at Temple during his freshman season, was 10-17 from the field including 2-3 from three-point range. He also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out two assists. Classmates Drake Diener (14 points) and LeVar Seals (12) were the other Blue Demons in double figures. Junior Marlon Brumfield led DePaul with a game-high nine rebounds.

Dayton was led by Monty Scott’s 14 points.

The Blue Demons took the lead for good at 23-20 on a three-point field goal by Seals with 7:45 remaining in the first half and increased the margin to eight (34-26) at the intermission behind Greer’s 10 first half points.

The second half belonged to the Blue Demons as they increased the lead to 19 with a 13-4 run midway through the period, a run in which Greer scored seven points. The Flyers were able to whittle the lead back down to eight with 1:14 to play but two free throws by Seals and one by Sammy Mejia iced the victory for DePaul.

The Blue Demons will be in action again on Saturday when they make their first road appearance of the season at Bradley. Game time is 7 p.m. and the contest can be heard on WSCR (670 AM).

Notes: This was DePaul’s first regular season win over Dayton since the 1994-95 season… Diener hit all three of his free throw attempts and his streak of made free throws has extended to 27 dating back to the championship game of the Conference USA Tournament last season… Greer’s point total was a career-high… tonight’s game ended DePaul’s four-game home stand to start the season… DePaul has now won 18 of its last 23 games dating back to last January and 16 of its last 19 regular season games.
