PEORIA, Ill. – DePaul couldn’t overcome a frigid night from the field and the Blue Demons dropped a 63-53 decision to Bradley in their first road game of the season on Saturday at Carver Arena.
The loss moved DePaul to 3-2 while Bradley improved to 4-1.
Quemont Greer led the Blue Demons, who shot .290 (18-62) from the field, with a game-high 22 points. He also led DePaul with eight rebounds. LeVar Seals was the only other Blue Demon in double figures as he scored 10. Bradley, who had four players in double figures, was led by Marcellus Sommerville’s 18 points.
The game was tight for the first seven minutes before Bradley used a 20-6 run that pushed the lead to 30-13 with 5:38 left in the opening half. The Blue Demons then used some stingy defense and good free throw shooting to close the gap to six (32-26) with a 13-2 run of their own over the final 5:13 of the stanza.
The second half saw Bradley again jump ahead as it grew the lead to 10 at 49-39 with 9:32 left in the game but DePaul rallied again and cut the advantage to three (51-48) with 6:02 to play but that was as close as the Blue Demons would get.
DePaul is in action again on Monday at the Allstate Arena when it meets IUPUI for the first time ever. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast on WSCR (670 AM) in Chicago.
Notes: Quemont Greer now needs 73 points and 32 rebounds to become the 19th player in DePaul history with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds… the loss was DePaul’s third consecutive to Bradley in Peoria, the Blue Demons haven’t won at Carver Arena since 1991.
