CHICAGO – DePaul’s Drake Diener has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District V team it was announced today.
Diener, a junior guard from Fond du Lac, Wis., carries a 3.37 cumulative grade-point-average as an Education major. He will now advance to the national ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-American team that will be announced in March. Diener is the first Blue Demon men’s basketball player to earn this honor since Stephen Howard in 1991-92.
Along with Diener, the District V team includes Clint Cuffle (Evansville), Dan Oppland (Valparaiso), Neil Plank (Illinois State) and David Simon (IPFW).
Diener is currently averaging 12.3 points per game and leads Conference USA in three-point field goal percentage (.500 = 50-100) for DePaul, which has won eight of its last nine games and is 15-7 overall, 8-3 in Conference USA. The Blue Demons play Saint Louis on Saturday at the Allstate Arena (1 p.m. - Fox Sports Chicago).
