Rygh Leads the Blue Demon Move on Day Two

HOUSTON – The DePaul women’s indoor track and field team finished seventh at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. Leah Rygh led the Blue Demons by winning the mile and finishing sixth in the 800-meter dash. Erin Moffett set a new school record en route to winning the 3,000-meter run.
Rygh took first place in the mile with a time of 4:52.59. She finished ahead of Tulane’s Birka Wicke who placed second in 4:55.33. She came back and placed sixth in the 800-meter dash with a mark of 2:18.46. Bente General of USF won the event at 2:15.19. Rygh nearly pulled off a third top eight finish, but just missed in the 3,000-meter run as she placed ninth.
Moffett won the 3,000-meter run by nearly five seconds. Her winning time of 9:48.87 finished ahead of Mary Kinyanjui of TCU at 9:53.75. Moffett set a new school record with her winning time, breaking the mark of 9:52.34 set by Anne Kuiken in 1989.
In the 400-meter dash Diana Runnels took fourth place with a time of 56.87. TCU’s Larissa Bakasa and Marquita Davis finished first and second with Bakasa’s winning time of 54.91.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Mary Hodges, Dee Moore, Marissa Peterson and Runnels finished the meet for the Blue Demons by finishing eighth with a time of 3:56.69.
TCU won the team title with 125 points. USF was second with 97.5 while
