CHICAGO - For the fist time since the 1999-2000 season, the DePaul Blue Demons will be heading into the NCAA Tournament. It was announced today by the NCAA Men’s selection committee that No. 7 seed DePaul will play No. 10 seed Dayton in Buffalo, N.Y., on Thursday, March 18. The winner of this match-up will face the winner of the Connecticut/Vermont game on Saturday, March 20. Both teams earned at-large bids.
DePaul (21-9) is heading into the NCAA Tournament winning eleven of their last thirteen games. They were also Co-Champions of Conference USA and dropped a heartbreaker to Cincinnati in the C-USA Tournament Championship game on Saturday afternoon 55-50. DePaul is looking for their first NCAA Tournament win since its win in 1989 when they beat Memphis State 66-63.
Dayton (24-8) was the Atlantic 10 Western Division Champions and they are led by senior/guard Ramod Marshall who averages 14.5 points per game and led the Flyers with 155 assists.
DePaul and Dayton previously played in the Great Midwest Conference and Midwestern Collegiate Conference. The Blue Demons and Flyers have met 66 times and DePaul has won 31 of the 66 games. Dayton won the last meeting in 1998, 70-59. Both teams have also met once in the NCAA Tournament back in the 1965 Mideast Region Third Place game and Dayton won 75-69.
