CHICAGO – The DePaul men’s soccer team was picked eighth in the annual Conference USA preseason poll. The league’s 10 coaches voted on the poll and preseason All-Conference team.
Saint Louis was the unanimous choice as preseason favorite to win the 2004 championship. The Billikens have taken at least a share of every C-USA title since 1997 and are led by C-USA Co-Preseason Player of the Year Will John. John and UAB’s Leandro de Oliviera were named as the top players heading into the 2004 campaign.
Saint Louis was followed by UAB and USF while Charlotte, Cincinnati and Marquette were picked fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. The Blue Demons finished eighth a year ago with a 4-5-0 C-USA record. Memphis and East Carolina rounded out the preseason poll.
The Billikens, ranked fourth nationally in the College Soccer News preseason poll, landed four players on the preseason all-conference team. Charlotte, Memphis and UAB added two players while USF and Cincinnati were represented with one each.
