Blue Demons Travel to Saint Louis

CHICAGO - The Blue Demons get into to thick of Conference USA play with matches at Saint Louis and East Carolina. DePaul goes on the road for both games with the Billikens up first on Wednesday night followed by the Pirates on Sunday morning. Overall, the club is 2-6-2. Saint Louis enters the week at 3-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in league play while East Carolina is 3-5-0 and 0-1-0 in C-USA action.
Looking at the Blue Demons: DePaul has been held scoreless in the last two matches going 0-1-1... the 2-1 win over Evansville on Sept. 17 ended a streak of nine straight wins with a shutout... the Blue Demons have played five overtime matches in their 10 games this season... a year ago, they played just one overtime match and in 2002 there were four games with extra soccer... offensively, the team has scored just eight goals, but have allowed only 12... DePaul has not allowed an opponent to score more than two goals in a game this season... the Blue Demons are led by senior Patrick Vyncke with eight points on four goals... Kevin Bissett, John Kornfeld, John Partyka and Alec Kulinczenko have also found the back of the net this season... on the eight goals, there have been eight assists, led by Julian Chill with four... the team has posted 12 wins in their last 19 matches at Wish Field... head coach Craig Blazer is in his fourth season in Lincoln Park.
Tournament Honors: With two tournaments during the regular season, members of the DePaul soccer team have picked up some honors for their outstanding performances. At the Best Western Lakeside Classic hosted by Northwestern, John Partyka and John Kornfeld were named to the All-Tournament team. Following the Dayton Marriott Flyer Classic, Partyka and Kornfeld were joined by Patrick Vyncke on the All-Tournament team.
Ranked in the Region: In the first NSCAA/adidas Midwest Region poll of the season, the Blue Demons found themselves at No. 10. After a pair of losses at the Best Western Lakeside Classic, the club dropped out of the region’s top 10. Over the last two seasons, the Blue Demons have been in-and-out of the region’s top 10 and were ranked as high as No. 8.
Last Week: DePaul went 0-1-1 in two matches last week. On Wednesday against UW-Green Bay, the match went to a pair of overtime periods with neither team finding the net in a scoreless tie. DePaul keeper Michael Timlin totaled 11 saves as the Blue Demons were outshot, 19-9, by the Phoenix.
The Blue Demons traveled to Drake on Saturday night and lost, 1-0, to the Bulldogs. The team was held without a shot in the second half while Drake’s Jess Richey scored the game-winner in the 54th minute. Timlin finished the night with four saves while facing 13 shots.
Scouting the Billikens: C-USA preseason favorite Saint Louis enters the match at 3-3-1 and 1-0-1 in C-USA play... last week, they tied No. 16 USF, 2-2, in Tampa... the club opened league play with a 3-0 win over Marquette on Sept. 4... Hermann Trophy candidate Will John leads the team with 13 points on six goals and an assist... head coach Dan Donigan is in his fourth season as head coach. The Series: Saint Louis leads the series, 13-0... a year ago in Chicago, the Billikens posted a 1-0 victory.
Looking Ahead to Saturday: The East Carolina Pirates enter the week at 3-5-0 overall and 0-1-0 in league action... they opened the C-USA portion of the schedule with a 2-1 loss at Cincinnati on Sept. 25... Terron Amos leads the team with 16 points on seven goals and two assists... the Pirates have outscored their opponents, 17-15, in eight matches... head coach Michael Benn is in his first season as head coach. The Series: In three meetings, the Blue Demons hold a 2-1 series advantage... a year ago at Wish Field, DePaul posted a 1-0 victory.

What’s Ahead: DePaul returns to Wish Field for an Oct. 6 match against Cincinnati before playing at Louisville on Oct. 9. The Blue Demons then play three straight home games starting on Oct. 15 against Memphis.
