Blue Demons and Crusaders Play to 1-1 Tie

CHICAGO – After 110 minutes of play on Sunday afternoon, the Blue Demons and Valparaiso Crusaders played to a 1-1 tie at Wish Field.  Patrick Vyncke gave the Blue Demons the lead early in the second half, but the Crusaders tied things up with less than four minutes left in the second period.

Following a scoreless first half, Vyncke and Julian Chill hooked up on a corner kick.  As Chill’s kick was in the air, Vyncke found a seam and sent a header to the back of the net at 46:47.  For the day, DePaul totaled 16 corner kicks.

The Blue Demons held the advantage until Valparaiso’s Jeremy Stacy got behind the DePaul defense.  Chris Goss and J.J. Eschenburg set up the play that ended with Stacy beating DePaul keeper Brian Allen at 86:37.

Neither team was able to score in the extra two frames and the match ended in a 1-1 tie.  The Blue Demons were outshot by Valparaiso, 8-6, while Allen finished with three saves.

The Blue Demons travel to Evanston, Ill., next weekend for the Best Western Lakeside Classic.  They take on UC Irvine on Friday and host Northwestern on Sunday.
