QUEENS, N.Y. – Playing the first of two straight BIG EAST road matches, the DePaul men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision at St. John's on Saturday night. The Blue Demons managed just one shot in match, but a strong defensive effort saw the No. 6 Red Storm held scoreless until the game's only goal in the 83rd minute.
St. John's (8-3-4, 6-1-2 BIG EAST) finished the evening with 18 shots. Following a DePaul foul late in the match, Andre Schmid lined up the free kick from 25 yards out. He sent a shot around the DePaul defensive wall and into right side of the net at 82:44 for the eventual game-winner.
Blue Demon goalkeeper Brian Visser finished the match with three saves while facing the 18 Red Storm shots. His counterpart, Jason Landers, stopped the single DePaul shot by Luke Rojo for one save in the game.
DePaul (3-9-2, 1-6-1 BIG EAST) travels to Cincinnati this week for a Wednesday night match. Kickoff with the Bearcats is set for 7 p.m. EST. The Blue Demons return home next weekend to host Louisville in the final home match of the season.
