No. 6 Louisville 3, DePaul 0
CHICAGO – The DePaul volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-19, 30-22, 30-18) BIG EAST match to No. 6 Louisville, Sunday at the DePaul Athletic Center. The Cardinals improve to 21-1, 9-1 BIG EAST while the Blue Demons fall to 4-19 and 1-8 in conference play.
The Cardinal offense was on fire hitting, .438 for the match and had four players finished with double-digit kill totals and attack percentages over .350. Jennifer Hoffman and Lena Ustymenko each registered a match high 12 kills, while Stephanie Marsh chipped in 11 and Rui Liu added 10 kills.
Despite the Blue Demons best offensive efforts in game one, Louisville triumphed and won 30-19. The game was stuck in a stalemate early on as neither team was able to take control of the game. Tied at 11, the Cardinals strung together a 14-3 run to pull the game out of reach. The Blue Demons notched a match high .250 attack percentage but the Cardinals offense registered a blistering .519 hitting percentage. Ustymenko and Marsh each recorded five kills in game one.
Louisville's offense continued to roll in the second game as they had three players hit over .300. Liu finished game two with five kill and a .571 attack percentage to lead the Cardinals to a 30-22 victory.
Louisville recorded seven service aces to win game three 30-18. Hoffman piloted the Cardinal offense, recording seven of the Cardinals 18 kills.
DePaul junior outside hitter, Morgan Ingersoll, led the Blue Demons with 11 kills for a .308 attack percentage. Senior Mandy Moorberg also finished in double-digits, registering 10 kills.
The Blue Demons will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Pittsburgh and West Virginia for a pair of BIG EAST matches. DePaul will take on Pittsburgh on Saturday and West Virginia on Sunday, both matches are slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
