Braves Spoil DePaul Debut of Jerry Wainwright

“You can put this one on me because I’ve always believed that players win games and coaches lose games,” Wainwright said. “We have to give Bradley a lot of credit, they are a very experienced team that made the right passes at the right time and showed the poise that veteran teams have. We will bounce back.”
Bradley (1-0) led most of the game and took the lead for good midway through the first half with a 15-3 run. Ray Brown started it with a 3-pointer and Zach Andrews' basket gave Bradley a 22-13 lead.
DePaul (0-1) was within 60-52 with 6:41 left, but Bradley responded with a 10-2 run capped by Andrews' dunk that made it 70-54.
Sommerville also chipped in eight rebounds, and Lawrence Wright scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting for Bradley.
Sophomore Karron Clarke, playing his first game for the Blue Demons after sitting out last season after a transfer from
Bradley led 41-31 at the half behind 12 points from Bennett.
DePaul (0-1) had 14 turnovers in the first half and finished with 23 in the game.
The loss snapped a 17-game winning streak for the Blue Demons in home openers and was just the second time in the past 10 seasons that DePaul has dropped its season opener.
The Blue Demons will return to action again next Saturday when Northwestern visits the Allstate Arena for a 1 p.m. game on WSCR (670 AM).
