DePaul is 5-4 after losing to Old Dominion 87-43 on Saturday in Norfolk, Va. California is 6-2 after falling to Kansas 69-56 on December 10 in Kansas City, Mo.
The Series
California leads the all-time series 2-1. The Bears won the last meeting 58-57 in the second round of the NIT at the Allstate Arena on March 16, 1999. The teams met twice in the 1998-99 season and the Blue Demons won the first meeting 75-72 also in Rosemont on November 28, 1998. The first meeting came on February 4, 1996 in San Jose and the Bears won 62-59. Current streak: California – 1.
The Last Meeting
Geno Carlisle scored 16 points and Michael Gill added 12 as the Bears beat the Blue Demons 58-57 on March 16, 1999 in the second round of the NIT. Sean Lampley added a game-high 14 rebounds for Cal. Lance Williams led DePaul with 15 points while Quentin Richardson added 12 and Bobby Simmons 10.
The Coaches
Jerry Wainwright is in his first season at DePaul and his 12th as a head coach. He is 191-148 overall and 5-4 with the Blue Demons. Wainwright has never coached against the Golden Bears. Ben Braun is in his 29th season as a head coach and his 10th at California. He is 505-347 overall including a 172-112 with the Golden Bears. Braun is 1-1 against the Blue Demons.
