CHICAGO - The DePaul men's soccer team plays their two final exhibition games in the next three days as they take on Dominican and Marquette. The Blue Demons travel to River Forest to play Dominican on Thursday afternoon before hosting Marquette on Saturday.
Checking on Dominican: The Stars posted a 15-4-3 record in 2004 and were a NCAA Division III National Tournament qualifier. Dominican is a member of the Lake Michigan Conference.
Noting Marquette: DePaul and Marquette square off in the final exhibition game for the Blue Demons on Saturday. As an exhibition match, the game will not count in the BIG EAST Conference standings. The Golden Eagles posted a 6-11-1 record in 2004 and return eight starters this season. Marquette was picked to finish sixth in the Blue Division in the BIG EAST preseason poll. The Series: Marquette leads the all-time series, 22-1-1 with the Blue Demons securing the lone victory last season. Patrick Ferrell's 'golden goal' with time winding down in overtime lifted DePaul to the 2-1 victory.
Preseason Picks: The Blue Demons were picked to finish eighth in the Red Division of the BIG EAST Preseason Poll. The BIG EAST Conference features a pair of eight-team divisions with the top 12 overall teams advancing to the league tournament.
Home-Opening Weekend: Following the Holiday Inn City Centre Classic at Bradley over Labor Day Weekend, the Blue Demons open the home portion of the schedule on Sept. 9 against St. Francis (Pa.) and Sept. 11 against Drake. Both games will be played at Wish Field. Kickoff on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. start on Sunday.
